Being the boring old married couple may come with some benefits. According to an article by Employee Benefit News, a new report issued by the Insured Retirement Institute found that married baby boomers are more prepared for retirement than those boomers who are single. Nearly 82% of married boomers reported having retirement savings compared with nearly 77% of single baby boomers. More than 50% of single baby boomers expect to rely on Social Security as a major source of income in retirement whereas little more than 37% of married couples report the same; instead they intend to rely on their 401(k) retirement plan savings. Less than 30% of single boomers are confident that they can retire securely.
